How to help

If you'd like to be involved with the bigfish project, there are a number of ways you might be able to assist.

One of the most important contributions anyone can make is sighting information. If you see one of the species that bigfish is focussing on, then we'd be most interested to here about it, in detail. Check out our sightings page for more info on how to submit a sighting report.

A project like this is limited by logistics and finances. Here are some of the things that we need to facilitate this project:
  1. Offshore boat time, capable of operating out to at least the 200 m depth contour (looking for the animals, spending time with them; photography; dive tender),
  2. Inshore boat time, e.g. RIB (as above),
  3. Aircraft charter, pilots & flying time (detection, aerial observation; surveys),
  4. Dive and inshore boat equipment,
  5. Digital photographic and video recording equipment,
  6. Donations, small and large, e.g. satellite tags cost c. NZ$5000 each.
